I was feeling disheartened because the first painter I received a quote from completely ghosted me but I do believe everything happens for a reason and this experience is yet another example. Mark came to my home for my quote and actually walked both the exterior and interior to point out things that I hadn’t even noticed. We did the exterior first and Jeffry and his assistant were fantastic - they worked hard to address every little touch up request that I made. The interior job was something that I was feeling overwhelmed by initially since I wasn’t sure how it would work with the painting happening while I was still living in my home. My concerns were unfounded as Alejandra and her team were truly amazing. They went above and beyond to move everything carefully out of the way and then put it all back in place - even helping me to rearrange my living room furniture for a new look! Oscar even fixed a broken drawer as part of having my cabinets painted! They were careful with my kitties who were hiding sometimes so they made sure to keep the doors closed when they were MIA. Some of the damage was very high and difficult to reach. I had also had 4 other contractors come out and look at the work. None were as attentive to the issues as Kimberly Painting. Their team pointed out things that I hadn't even noticed, so I though their quote would be much higher than the others, but it was right in the middle. We're big fans of painting brick exteriors, but it's an important decision. Because you're changing a significant element of your home's appearance.

However, paint won't cover damage to the brick itself. In addition, brick is a low-maintenance feature on your house; whereas, exterior paint needs more upkeep.

So you can paint directly over the brick exterior?
Yes! But brick paint is permanent. It cannot be removed. It's a great solution for homeowners who don't like the color of the brick or feel it is boring and outdated.

What kind of paint do you use on a brick house?
For brick painting, we recommend Sherwin-Williams masonry coating scientifically developed specifically for exterior brick.
Another amazing option is Romabio Classico Limewash. This paint was formulated especially for brick surfaces using a slaked-lime slurry that forms a gorgeous finish. It's made in Italy using Dolomite lime, a combination of modern technology and 2,000-year-old techniques.
How long does paint last if you paint a brick house?
The average lifespan of regular paint over brick is five to seven years, but it really depends on the weather and also how often you perform maintenance such as pressure washing. Limewash, on the other hand, can literally last decades before you need to give it a refresh.
Exterior Brick Painting Considerations
- Brick is porous. That means it holds on to dirt and debris far more than traditional siding.
- It also means that most exterior paints will struggle to bond to brick. If you use traditional paint, it will tend to bubble and peel very quickly. Only use paint formulated for brick.
- You should clean your home's brick exterior and trim at least once a year to protect it from Atlanta weather and keep the color vibrant. Also be sure to clean and maintain your gutter system.
In addition, you should only consider brick painting when the brickwork is in good condition. We will make light repairs as part of our painting process, but we're not bricklayers. We'll assess and itemize repairs on your written estimate.
