Why is Sherwin-Williams Duration® the King of Exterior House Paint?
Typically, I'll include Duration® as an upgrade to Resilience® on my exterior painting estimates and explain why it is my top recommendation.
Some of my customers specifically request Duration® because they've done their research and recognize its long-term value.
I am an advocate for my customers. Moreover, when I paint your house, my business reputation is at stake. I don't want you to call me back in two or three years because your paint job is failing.
You've seen homes that are faded, peeling, and don't look good. They are in every neighborhood in and around Cumming.
Those homeowners may not understand that the quality of the paint on their siding is almost always to blame.
So what's the big deal about Duration®?
Benefits of Duration® Exterior House Paint
My painters and I can tell from the street whether a home is painted with Duration®. The quality is that good.
It's like wrapping your home in a liquid plastic coating. It's also attractive, boasting brighter light colors and richer dark colors. It protects your home like no other exterior house paint.
Here are some of the reasons it is legendary in the industry:
- It comes with a fantastic Lifetime Limited Warranty.
- Exceptional durability and thick coverage.
- Resists mildew, fading, chalking, cracking, blistering, and peeling.
- Up to 100 color choices, depending on your siding material.
- Very low VOC at less than 50 grams per liter.
- Application at temperatures as low as 35 degrees.
- Self-priming. While spot priming is still needed on bare surfaces, repaints with Duration® don't need whole-house priming.
Grade Levels of Exterior Paint
Paint is made up of four elements, each serving a different purpose.
Pigments give the paint color. Your exterior paint’s ability to hide flaws and previous colors come from pigments.
Resins are the binding element. They hold pigments together and make the paint adhere to the surface it covers. Adhesives are also the component primarily responsible for sheen.
Additives affect everything else. Unique properties of an exterior paint come from the type and quality of additives.
Solvents are the liquid base. Their entire purpose is to act as a delivery system. Once applied to a surface, they evaporate. This process causes the paint to dry.
✔ High-quality paints contain more pigments, resins, and additives. Lower quality paints include more solvents.
✔ High-quality paints have better color, adhesion, staying power, protective qualities, and thickness. Low-quality paints require more coats and frequent reapplication.
One grade of paint may be a certain fraction of a millimeter (5 - 10%) thicker than the level below.
However, Duration® has chemical properties that make it twice as thick as the high-quality grade just below it.
Choose Value Over Price When You Paint Your Home
We have grown accustomed to bargain shopping, looking to pay the lowest price. For some items, you'll save a lot of money.
For most products or services, it's more financially frugal to look at value instead of price. You can buy something cheap and replace it multiple times - or pay a bit more, one time, for higher quality that lasts.
Paint is like that.
Most higher quality, professionally applied exterior house paint products last, on average, two to three times longer than their lower-end counterparts. They also include better warranties.
Due to its enhanced qualities, Duration® is the top industry choice for special purposes such as severe climate, weathered wood, architectural plastics such as shutters, and wood gutters (one of the hardest structural items to paint).
